It's been months since my last contribution. I can say that this due to my work commitments. However,today I find the strength to re-contribute.

During my absence from the weblog world,I took the time to 'scour' the internet,finding materials for my blogs.

Life has been easy ever since internet was created that I found many useful materials which of great value and help.

I owed much to the internet. It's from the internet that I got to know my current employer.It is also from the internet, I found tips on how to create resumes,cover letters and answering job interviews.And these are not an ordinary but 'killer' tips.

Believed me it works.

And I've proven it.

Simple Lesson on Management!

One of the very important job skills is management. In working,this is the most use skills whether you're a managers or a labour.There are many components of management such as time management,people management,operations management,financial management et cetera...et cetera..et cetera.....

A colleague of mine has forwarded me a simple lesson on management.Hopefully,this can very helpful to anyone out there who are looking for solutions in their every day working life.

Lesson 1: A man is getting into the shower just as his wife is finishing up her shower, when the doorbell rings. The wife quickly wraps herself in a towel and runs downstairs. When she opens the door, there stands Bob, the next-door neighbour. Before she says a word, Bob says, 'I'll give you $800 to drop that towel.' After thinking for a moment, the woman drops her towel and stands naked in front of Bob, after a few seconds, Bob hands her $800 and leaves. The woman wraps back up in the towel and goes back upstairs. When she gets to the bathroom, her husband asks, 'Who was that?' 'It was Bob the next door neighbour,' she replies. 'Great,' the husband says, 'did he say anything about the $800 he owes me?'

Moral of the story: If you share critical information pertaining to credit and risk with your shareholders in time, you may be in a position to prevent avoidable exposure.

Lesson 2: A priest offered a Nun a lift. She got in and crossed her legs, forcing her gown to reveal a leg. The priest nearly had an accident. After controlling the car, he stealthily slid his hand up her leg. The nun said, 'Father, remember Psalm 129?' The priest removed his hand. But, changing gears, he let his hand slide up her leg again. The nun once again said, 'Father, remember Psalm 129?' The priest apologized 'Sorry sister but the flesh is weak.' Arriving at the convent, the nun sighed heavily and went on her way. On his arrival at the church, the priest rushed to look up Psalm 129. It said, 'Go forth and seek, further up, you will find glory.'

Moral of the story: If you are not well informed in your job, you might miss a great opportunity.

Lesson 3: A sales rep, an administration clerk, and the manager are walking to lunch when they find an antique oil lamp. They rub it and a Genie comes out. The Genie says, 'I'll give each of you just one wish.' 'Me first! Me first!' says the admin clerk. 'I want to be in the Bahamas , driving a speedboat, without a care in the world.' Puff! She's gone. 'Me next! Me next!' says the sales rep. 'I want to be in Hawaii , relaxing on the beach with my personal masseuse, an endless supply of Pina Coladas and the love of my life.' Puff! He's gone. 'OK, you're up,' the Genie says to the manager. The manager says, 'I want those two back in the office after lunch.'

Moral of the story: Always let your boss have the first say.

Lesson 4 :An eagle was sitting on a tree resting, doing nothing. A small rabbit saw the eagle and asked him, 'Can I also sit like you and do nothing?' The eagle answered: 'Sure, why not.' So, the rabbit sat on the ground below the eagle and rested. All of a sudden, a fox appeared, jumped on the rabbit and ate it.

Moral of the story: To be sitting and doing nothing, you must be sitting very, very high up.

Lesson 5: A turkey was chatting with a bull. 'I would love to be able to get to the top of that tree' sighed the turkey, 'but I haven't got the energy.' 'Well, why don't you nibble on some of my droppings?' replied the bull. They're packed with nutrients.' The turkey pecked at a lump of dung, and found it actually gave him enough str ength to reach the lowest branch of the tree. The next day, after eating some more dung, he reached the second branch.. Finally after a fourth night, the turkey was proudly perched at the top of the tree. He was promptly spotted by a farmer, who shot him out of the tree.

Moral of the story: Bull Shit might get you to the top, but it won't keep you there.

Lesson 6: A little bird was flying south for the winter. It was so cold the bird froze and fell to the ground into a large field. While he was lying there, a cow came by and dropped some dung on him. As the frozen bird lay there in the pile of cow dung, he began to realize how warm he was. The dung was actually thawing him out! He lay there all warm and happy, and soon began to sing for joy. A passing cat heard the bird singing and came to investigate. Following the sound, the cat discovered the bird under the pile of cow dung, and promptly dug him out and ate him.

Morals of the story: (1) Not everyone who shits on you is your enemy. (2) Not everyone who gets you out of shit is your friend. (3) And when you're in deep shit, it's best to keep your mouth shut!

Writing a Resume, Part 1!

A lot of jobhunters scratch their heads when it comes to write a resume.Undeniably,this is the most important and difficult part in job application process.A resume in general is a brief description of what you have,your work experiences,skills and academic qualifications.The purpose of a resume is to win interview.It is like an advertisement or personal brochure.Therefore it must be attractive,not in appearance but in its content!.A good resume will be able to tell your prospective employer that if he or she buy this product (in this case,you!),he or she will get all the benefits or attributes that come with it.So,it is really important to present a good resume.

The next question would be....what is or how do you justify a good resume? To answer this,you have to put yourself in the interviewer's point of view.Well,maybe it's difficult since we cannot judge ourself or simply because we think that we have all the qualities or attributes that may fit into the employer's book.Then,take another example,say shopping.How many of us take time when it comes to buy things,shirt for example?I think most of us would take quite some time before make or reach a firm decision before paying.Why? Because you want something that value for your money.Same goes with an employer.If they want or look for an employee,they want somebody that is value for what they paid for.Someone that can help to contribute for the benefit of the company.Therefore,your resume must focus on your employer's needs,not yours.

There are many formats on writing a resume. Generally, it should start with your personal particulars,your full name, contact address and numbers,e-mail address and academic qualifications.Some employer do not interested to know whether you're married or still single,therefore just skip this part (you can still elaborate this during the interview!).Others like date and place of birth,height and weight,pets,hobbies etc,just skip it.After all,you only need to project key features of yourself.Remember,a resume is like product brochure,brief and attractive,other not-so important features,must be skipped.That can be addressed later in the interview.Use legible font like Arial or Times New Roman.Don't you Manuscript or Signatures that make your prospective employer wonder what on earth you're writing about.

The Career Fair is back!!! Yupp!!! This year's career fair will be held from April 4th to 6th at the Mid Valley Exhibition Centre.

This year's event is the 7th and the organiser's claimed that this event is the largest with more than 120 companies will look for their prospective employees.

Looking at the list of event sponsors - with American Insurance Group(AIG),Sime Darby,Malaysian International Shipping Corporation (MISC Berhad) to name a few,this event will grab the attention thousands of job hunters out there.

For those looking for jobs,equipped yourself with resumes,CVs,photos and certificates.Prepare few copies,in case you are going to apply for more than one companies.And don't forget to dress properly as the companies may conduct interview on the spot.Arrive early (this event start at 11am till 7pm),so you have plenty of time to prepare yourself.

Another good spot to build your career is the civil service. Yes, work for the government, the state or federal. Although there are many 'pros' in building career with the government, there are also 'cons' that need to be considered. Many job seeker view the government as an elephant,big and slow.You also need to provide an amount of information with your application. Once you're hired by the government,it is unlikely that people get you off unless you'll do so. That's why you can see lots of pensioners is an ex-servicemen. Some banks,even offer personal loan to the government staff.

Who said that civil servant don't get promotion? Few of my classmates now has become head of government departments. A huge organization like the government have a very good system in terms of career advancement. They provide lots of trainings too! If your star is bright, they'll send you overseas to get the right qualifications. All at the government expense.

With all the reasons stated above, one should not taking civil service for granted,right?

The first step in building a successful career is to look for suitable job. Although it may sound easy, to some it is an uphill task. As mentioned before, looking for a good job is like looking for a nice girl for future wife.However, to find job today, not as hard as in the ol' days. The resources are everywhere. The classic way of looking is to buy newspaper. Many mainstream newspapers have classified section in which the job vacancies are advertised. Some newspapers like The New Straits Times and The Star has dedicated section for job advertisement.

If you find buying a newspaper is troublesome, you can dig in the internet. There are plenty of websites that advertise job vacancies. Jobstreet.com, Hire Fire, Monster, Best Jobs and the list go on. You have to register with the website in order to use the full service. Jobstreet.com, for example, enables you to submit your resume online. If your luck is there, they even can arrange an interview for you.

Some companies often let you apply for jobs via website. These companies will put your resume into their database. When the need to recruit, they will look into their database for suitable candidates. These companies usually practiced open and closed job application system. In the open system, you can apply anytime compare to close system, in which you only can submit your application during certain period of time.

Strategy and Assessment

The second step in career building is to create strategy. You need a strategy before you can apply for the job so that you can win the heart of your prospective employer. In order to do this, you need to assess your strength, weaknesses and identify all the skills that you possess. You need to relate these strength and skills that you have to the job that you want apply. For weaknesses, identify steps or measures on how to overcome it.
