Civil Service, Anyone?

Another good spot to build your career is the civil service. Yes, work for the government, the state or federal. Although there are many 'pros' in building career with the government, there are also 'cons' that need to be considered. Many job seeker view the government as an elephant, big and slow. You also need to provide an amount of information with your application. Many job seeker also feels disappointed with the way the government processes the application, time consuming. However, the bright side is once you get on the 'elephant', you'll be safe. Why?

To run the country as big as Malaysia effectively, you'll need approximately 1 million workers. Yes,that's a huge number. Therefore, there's a lot of opportunity in the government,at the state, cities and federal level. These opportunities create diversity. You can decide whether to be a soldier, teacher, policeman, engineer, architect, scientist, doctors, clerks, administrative officers - the list goes on. You can even become a politician or a diplomat for the government. With the long list, one should consider the civil service as their career.

Open System Hiring

In Malaysia, the government practices open system hiring. This system enables the public to apply for government position at any time in a year.In order to do this, one have to register with the Public Services Commission website, fill in your particular and submit your application.Your application together with your particular will be kept in the database within one year,in which it will expire after that.If your application matches the vacancies in the government, you will be called for an interview. You can visit the Public Services Commission at

Job Security

Once you're hired by the government,it is unlikely that people get you off unless you'll do so. That's why you can see lots of pensioners is an ex-servicemen. The other factor is, there are lots of benefit you can enjoy as a civil servant. Housing Loan, Car Loan, all with low interest are some of it. Some banks, even offer personal loan to the government staff.

Promotions and Growth

Who said that civil servant don't get promotion? Few of my classmates now has become head of government departments. A huge organization like the government have a very good system in terms of career advancement. They provide lots of trainings too! If your star is bright, they'll send you overseas to get the right qualifications. All at the government expense.

With all the reasons stated above, one should not taking civil service for granted, right?
